SYNOPSIS: Sadie, a young farm girl, is determined to marry Micah, although she is a Disciple and he a Truelight, warring religious sects of the countryside, and she is better educated than he. Her Aunt Sue and brother Jess oppose the marriage. After a tender meeting, in which the diffident Micah at last proposes and is accepted, he goes off fishing. Sadie storms out of the house when her news is angrily received by Aunt Sue. After an interval, she returns to be met with the tragic news that Micah has drowned. Her happiness is turned to bitterest grief.
