SYNOPSIS: After the death of the Count, his widow Beatrice di Tenda has married Filippo Maria Visconti, Duke of Milan. Younger than she, Filippo has tired of Beatrice and love Agnese del Manio, a lady-in-waiting. Agnese, however, loves Orombello di Ventimiglia, who himself is enamored of Beatrice. In this tangled web, Agnese discovers Orombello's passion and schemes to concoct evidence against Beatrice, both political and personal. Beatrice and Orombello are arrested; the latter confesses, implicating Beatrice, who does not break down even under torture. She is led to execution, after forgiving Agnese, who has confessed.
