Michael Christopher (Chris) Ervin is a second year Professional Artist Certificate Candidate this year with the Fletcher Opera Institute. In the fall of 2006, Chris made his debut with Piedmont Opera as the Customs Sergeant in Puccini’s La bohème. Chris also played Guglielmo in Piedmont Opera’s educational outreach production of Mozart’s Cosí fan tutte. In February of 2007, Chris played Dr. Gibbs in the southeast premiere of Ned Rorem’s Our Town. He also played Peter in an outreach production of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel with the Fletcher Opera Institute.
In recent seasons, Chris has appeared as a soloist with Colorado Vocal Arts Ensemble in concert and on their most recent Compact Disc, Down to the Water. Chris has also appeared as a soloist with orchestra in works by Brahms, Mozart, Handel, Bach, Scarlatti and Rutter. Chris’s past opera roles include Don Giovanni, Leporello, Nick Shadow, Mephistopheles (Faust), Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte) and Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro).
Chris is a student of James Allbritten. He was awarded his BM and MM (distinguished graduate) degrees from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri, where he also served as adjunct faculty in applied voice. He has studied with Sarah Turner, Irene Liden and Carole Gaspar.
