A native of South Bend, Indiana, he began his career in theatre at a very young age. He has sung and acted in over 80 productions. As a stage director, he has directed more than 40 productions including, Beatrice and Benedick, Don Giovanni, Eugene Onegin, Don Pasquale, The Old Maid and the Thief, Carousel, The Sound of Music, The Fantasticks, Die Fledermaus, The Tender Land, The Impressario, Trouble in Tahiti, Cavelleria Rusticana, La fille du Régiment, Candide, and Madama Butterfly. He has been the director of The Operatic Ambassadors for Piedmont Opera Theatre and served as Music Program Coordinator for NCSA's Summer Scenes at Roanoke Island. He is the principal stage director for Opera Theatre of the Rockies Vocal Symposium at Colorado College. Most recent projects include Le nozze di Figaro for Opera Theatre of the Rockies and Don Giovanni for the Fletcher Institute. Upcoming projects include Donizetti's Belisario and Rossini's La Cenerentola.

An active singer as well as director, Mr. LaCosse has appeared with many opera companies, including: Di Capo Opera in New York City, Utah Festival Opera Company, Opera Festival of New Jersey, and Piedmont Opera, Toledo Opera, Opera Carolina, Western Plains Opera and many others. Roles include Gastone in La traviata, Spoletta in Tosca, Hauptman in Wozzeck, Guillot in Manon, and Goro in Madama Butterfly, and the Servants in Tales of Hoffmann. He most recently appeared as Vanderdendeur in Leonard Bernstein's Candide for Opera Theatre of the Rockies and as Ruiz in Opera Carolina's production of Il trovatore and as Basilio/Curzio in Le nozze di Figaro. Last season he sang Spoletta for Piedmont Opera Theatre and Normanno in Lucia di Lammermoor for Greensboro Opera. Mr. LaCosse holds a bachelor's degree in voice from Indiana University at South Bend, a master's degree in voice from the University of North Texas, a master's degree in opera stage direction from Indiana University, and is a doctoral candidate in voice at Indiana University. He is resident opera stage director at the North Carolina School of the Arts and is also the Managing Director for the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute.
